Background
As a concept, this project began as a response to the hospitality industry’s tentative re-emergence from the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting draconian lockdown regulations. Not only were service providers desperately scrambling to entice paying customers back, at the same time, they were having to cope with changing legal compliance and tackling the erosion in societal confidence in any public gatherings. Restrictions in capacity had further compounded the delicate balance between profit and loss, to the point of just staying afloat was a struggle.
Fast forward a few years and now these same businesses are being hit by energy costs that have increased by orders of magnitude. Given the very small profit margins the majority of these businesses operate within, the smallest of drops to their customer base can have massive repercussions.
Waste within the services sector differs from that in retail; premises, personnel and time itself are of limited resource, mismanagement of these resources are potentially the most costly to those businesses.
